The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), came into force in May 2018 within the European Union. The GDPR specifies and clarifies the requirements for processing the personal data of EU citizens, and also increases fines for infringements up to 20 million euros or 4% of the company's worldwide turnover.
The GDPR not only applies to organizations located within the EU but also applies to organizations located outside of the EU if they offer goods or services to, or monitor the behavior of, EU data subjects.
